Universal And Illumination Near Deal for Super Mario Bros. Animated Feature

Almost 25 years ago, the first attempt at a film based on the popular Super Mario Bros. was released. The result was one of the worst films of the year and quite possibly the worst video game adaption of all time. However, it looks like there is an upcoming attempt at the Mario franchise on film. Universal’s Illumination Entertainment is nearing a deal with Nintendo to make an animated feature based on the Super Mario Bros. video game, first reported by The Hollywood Reporter

Super Mario Bros. first debuted in 1985, and revolutionized the video game industry. Without the Mario Bros., video games would not have exploded the way they did.  Along with Super Mario Bros., Nintendo properties include the Zelda, Donkey Kong and Kirby games, which may be in one for films of their own if the Super Mario Bros. film does well.
