Sony Developing Movie on Spider-Man Enemy, Morbius

In what some may see as nothing short as a cash grab, Sony Pictures is developing an untitled movie based on Spider-Man’s villain Morbius, The Living Vampire. The news isn’t too surprising as Sony is already making a film about one of Spidey’s main baddies, Venom. The film that is currently in production stars Tom Hardy. Morbius is being written by the team of Burk Sharpless and Matt Sazama, whose feature credits include Power Rangers.

The character of Morbius was created in 1971 by writer Roy Thomas and artist Gil Kane for the release of Amazing Spider-Man issue number 101. The villain was a scientist who tried to cure himself of a blood disease with lead to the rest of becoming afflicted with vampiric traits such as fangs and a thirst for blood and wound up fighting Spider-Man.

No word on when the film will be released.
