While the final ratings have yet to be released, Super Bowl LII was massive for NBC but off a tad from the previous year.
In metered-market households, the Philadelphia Eagles’ win over the New England Patriots earned a 47.4 rating/70 share. That’s off a scant 3 percent from the 48.8/72 for Super Bowl LI in 2017. Last year’s game ended up drawing 111.32 million viewers; a 3 percent drop would put Sunday’s contest around 108 million.
Following the game, This Is Us posted a 16.2 household rating in the metered markets, the best for a post-Super Bowl show since The Voice in 2012. The 16.2 is more than double This Is Us season average of 7.1 in metered-market households. Total viewers is a bit tricky here since it started at 10:30 and the game is factored a bit into the numbers but reports say total viewers are likely to be north of 20 million, basically double what it does in live viewing on a normal night.
The other networks wisely aired repeats for the night.
