Reel Must Watch: Jim Carrey: I Needed Color

Jim Carrey hasn’t been in the spotlight much over the last six years with his last film being 2016’s True Crimes and 2014’s Dumb and Dumber To, so what’s he been up to? He’s painting! Six years ago, Carrey took up painting as a way to heal a broken heart. No specification as to which breakup he was trying to heal from. Carrey dated actress and comedian Jenny McCarthy from 2005-2010 and soon after model Anchal Joseph and Anastasia Vitkina.

He’s painting! Six years ago, Carrey took up painting as a way to heal a broken heart. No specification as to which breakup he was trying to heal from. Carrey dated actress and comedian Jenny McCarthy from 2005-2010 and soon after model Anchal Joseph and Anastasia Vitkina for a brief time. My guess is McCarthy.

In the documentary, you can see Carrey hard at work along with describing his process. “I think what makes someone an artist is they make models of their inner life. They make something come into physical being that is inspired by their emotions or their needs or what they feel the audience needs.”

Watch the short documentary, only about six minutes long, and check out his incredible work. Just goes to show, it’s never too late to learn something new.
