Reel Box Office Update: Black Panther Has Best Pre-Summer Tuesday At The Box Office.

Black Panther has steadily broken box office records since its release and in just five days, it has broken another.

The superhero juggernaut grossed an estimated $21.07 million yesterday, giving it the best pre-summer Tuesday take ever. The previous record holder was only a year ago when Beauty and the Beast grossed $17.8 million on Tuesday. This is also the best Tuesday for the Marvel Cinematic Universe which was previously held by The Avengers with $17.6 million.

The best Tuesday ever belongs to Star Wars: The Force Awakens which took in $37.3 million on December 22, 2015. The Tuesday gross for Black Panther brought its five day total to $263.2 million (I’d like to add that it beat the entire box office run of Justice League in just four days) and that places it second for best five day gross behind, you guessed it, The Force Awakens. Joining the $300 million club the fastest is held by The Force Awakens as well (five days) but Black Panther could top the nine days of The Avengers if it can get there by Friday (its eighth day).

Check back tomorrow for the box office predictions for weekend two of Black Panther and new releases Annihilation and Game Night.
