‘Miss Peregrine’ Tops The Box Office

The weekend box office played out as most predicted with Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children coming out on top over Deepwater Horizon.

Miss Peregrine grossed an estimated  $28.5 million to take the top spot. The film received an opening night B+ Cinemascore and a so-so 64% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes so it’s going to be bit of a wait and see scenario in terms of how this film will do. The budget is a reported $110 million so international play is going to be needed to give the film a boost.

Our second new release, Deepwater Horizon, came in second with $20.6 million. There is a lot in the film’s favor but there is a cause for concern. Despite good reviews (82% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes) and an A- opening  night Cinemascore, the opening is a tad flat considering this film cost $156 million to make. The film definitely won’t match that domestically so it’s going to need some overseas help to break even.
