She’s back! James Cameron announced that Linda Hamilton will return to the Terminator franchise for a new installment he’s planning with Skydance and Paramount. Cameron made the announcement at a private event in celebration of the franchise stating that “as meaningful as she was to gender and action stars everywhere back then, it’s going to make a huge statement to have that seasoned warrior that she’s become return.”
Now more than before with Hamilton’s return, Cameron plans to make a statement on gender roles in action movies. He’s even been a strong critic on Gal Gadot’s portrayal of Wonder Woman. He said about Hamilton’s role that,
“There are 50-year-old, 60-year-old guys out there killing bad guys but there isn’t an example of that for women.”
Though Cameron won’t be directing – that role goes to Tim Miller (Deadpool), he is playing a bigger role for the first time since 1991’s Terminator 2: Judgement Day. This sequel, co-written by Cameron and Miller, will take place after the events of that film, ignoring the rest of the movies that came after. Arnold Schwarzenegger will also return.
