After the breathtaking new trailer for the upcoming Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi, Rian Johnson had to took time to refute rumors that claimed he told fans to ignore the second trailer for The Last Jedi. The second full trailer for the next Star Wars film dropped last night during ESPN’s Monday Night Football. The whole thing started on Sunday, where Johnson was asked on Twitter if fans should avoid the new trailer to remain spoiler free. This was Johnson’s response:
“I [am] legitimately torn. If you want to come in clean, absolutely avoid it. But it’s gooooood….”
As with every form of media, some news outlets took things to far which lead Johnson to reply.
“That wording is misleading – I said IF you want to come in totally 100% clean, avoid the trailer,” the director responded to an Entertainment Weekly tweet that read, “Star Wars: The Last Jedi director suggests fans should ‘absolutely avoid’ new trailer to stay spoiler-free”
The Daily Express also tweeted that Johnson said to avoid the trailer, to which Johnson responded,
“Nope, I did not. Seems to be a whole bunch of clickbaity jiggery pokery going around.”
The filmmaker added Monday:
“FWIW: I love that there are folks who want to come into a movie clean, I think that’s awesome. Me, I’m a weak man. I watch ALL THE TRAILERS”
Advance tickets for the film also went on sale Monday and opening weekend tickets are moving very fast.
