The director of the upcoming untitled Joker origin film, Todd Phillips, has revealed the first look at star Joaquin Phoenix before he becomes the popular Batman villain.
Phillips captioned the image with just “Arthur,” evidently this iteration of the Joker’s name before he took on his mononym.
Phillips has stated that the upcoming film will be an “exploration of a man disregarded by a society that is not only a gritty character study but also a broader cautionary tale.”
The Joker film will be released in 2019.
