Carrie Fisher Was Intended to be Hero in Star Wars: Episode IX

Following her return in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Carrie Fisher’s iconic character formally Princess now General Leia Organa was brought back into the limelight and fans of the franchise were happy to have Leia back on the big screen.

After her untimely death back in December, fans were wondering what the fate of Leia would be in the upcoming films. While she will be in The Last Jedi, plans would have called her to be the hero of the currently untitled Episode 9. In the latest issue of Vanity Fair,  Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy spoke about the promise she made to the actress before her tragic passing.

“The minute she finished (shooting The Last Jedi), she grabbed me and said, ‘I’d better be at the forefront of IX!’ Because Harrison (Ford) was front and centre on VII, and Mark (Hamill) is front and centre on VIII. She thought IX would be her movie. And it would have been.”

It is a shame we that we were unable to see where the story of Leia would have gone in Episode IX, however, it will be great to have at least one last performance from the great Carrie Fisher.
