Captain Marvel’s Origin Story Hinted At in Doctor Strange

Captain Marvel’s origin story may have been revealed during Doctor Strange. It’s been known for some time that the screenwriters of Marvel’s upcoming Captain Marvel were planning to switch around her origin story to set it apart from that of DC’s Green Lantern. Captain Marvel’s current origin has her as an Air Force pilot who gains her superpowers from an alien. A story that is too similar to Green Lantern’s origin.

To set it apart, the screenwriters were going to give her a new origin and fans who watched Doctor Strange may not have realized they’ve already heard it.

For those that have seen it, the story is revealed right before Stephen Strange gets into his major accident. As a high-profile doctor, Strange continues to get phone calls about different cases for him to tackle. One such story is of a woman in her 20s, who was recently struck by lightning. She begins to suffer from schizophrenia episodes and in order to alleviate these side effects, she has an electronic implanted into her brain.

Doctor Strange director Scott Derrickson has yet to confirm that is indeed Captain Marvel a.k.a. Carol Danver’s origin, but he hasn’t denied it either.

Captain Marvel hits the big screen on March 8, 2019.
