Call Of The Wild Is Man’s Best Friend On Thursday Night Previews With $1 Million

Sonic The Hedgehog will easily win the box office race for the second weekend in a row but Call of the Wild got started in Thursday night previews last night and put up respectable numbers.

Call of the Wild, starring Harrison Ford and Karen Gillan, and directed by Chris Sanders,  Grossed $1 million in Thursday night previews that started at 6:00 PM. The preview performance is being compared to compared to The Upside ($1.1 million, $20 million opening), A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood ($900,000 $13 million opening), and A Dog’s Way Home ($535,000, $11 million opening). This is a mix of older and family skewing titles that showcase where the film could end up this weekend. I suspect the crowd for this comes out later today and especially on Saturday, with early Sunday showings also being strong if word of mouth is good. The film carries a budget of $135 million which means that it’s going to need some overseas love to see a profit.

Brahms: The Boy II also got started in Thursday night previews last night and it’s looking like another horror stinker in a year that has seen way too many of them so early in the time frame. The horror sequel grossed $375,000 at roughly 1,800 theaters last night. The film has eight reviews up on Rotten Tomatoes and it currently sits at 0% and I wouldn’t be surprised if the film received another “F”CinemaScore for horror this year given that the audience score is already at a low 37%. The Invisible Man it’s on you to turn this around this week for the genre, please? If you’re wondering why The Boy received a sequel, the original film opened to $10.7 million stateside and finaled at $35.8 million, $74.1 million worldwide. When your film only cost $10 million to make, that more than justifies a sequel, especially in horror.
