Black Panther Is The King Of The Weekend Box Office

Black Panther came to conquer the box office and it did so in a very big way by breaking numerous records this weekend.

The Marvel film opened to an estimated $192 million over three days. Some are saying that when the final numbers are released it could be over $200 million for the three days so we will definitely update the total if that turns out to be the case. This is the fifth largest three-day domestic opening in history & is currently expected to finish around $218 million for the four-day holiday weekend. The performance is also the largest February opening of all-time, the largest President’s Day weekend of all-time & gives Disney eight of the top ten domestic openings of all-time. Internationally the film grossed $169 million from 48 markets for a worldwide opening of $361 million.

Dropping to second is Peter Rabbit with $17.2 million. It should clear $22 million for the four day weekend & its domestic total stands at $48 million on a $50 million budget.

Falling 56% to third is Fifty Shades Freed with $16.9 million. It should finish with $19 million for the holiday weekend & brings its total to $76 million. The film is still a big player overseas where it grossed another $47.7 million. Worldwide the film has grossed $268.9 million.

Falling a slim 20.7% is Jumanji: Welcome to The Jungle with a gross of $7.9 million. The four day weekend should hit $10 million and it has a current gross of $377.6 million. This makes it Sony’s second highest grossing domestic release of all-time, surpassing Spider-Man 2. Can it top Spider-Man’s $403.7 million? Don’t count it out just yet. The film has also grossed a staggering $904.6 million worldwide.

Rounding out the top five is The 15:17 to Paris with $7.7 million. The film dropped a not awful 39% & should finish with $9 million over the holiday. The film has grossed $27 million to date.

9. Winchester – $2.2 million (-57.2%, $21.8 million)

10. Samson – $1.9 million (NEW)
