The Golden Globes weighed in yesterday with their nominations and now it’s time for the Screen Actors Guild to get their say. The nominations for the 27th Screen Actors Guild Awards have been announced and now it’s time to see if their picks are in line with the trajectory of the current awards season.
A group of 2,500 randomly selected SAG-AFTRA members vote for the coveted awards and what makes this ceremony a bit different from all the others is that it’s the actors that ultimately decide how this all turns out. The nominations were revealed in full pandemic form via Instagram Live at 7:50 AM PST exclusively on the social-networking app and website. Emily in Paris star Lily Collins, who found out she was Golden Globe-nominated yesterday, and Hamilton standout Daveed Diggs hosted the festivities which honor the best of the best in film and television performances.
Besides avoiding a live announcement of the nominees due to the pandemic, SAG revealed that the Instagram Live format was used to provide “an accessible platform for people to share their stories and stay up-to-date with current events. SAG Awards aim to create an authentic connection with their audience by reinventing the nominations announcement into a seamless, virtual experience for both the nominees and the fans.”
The 27th Screen Actors Guild Awards ceremony will be simulcast on TNT and TBS on April 4, 2021, at 6:00 PM PST. You can check out the full list of nominees below!
