ABC had a fairly good Sunday night in the ratings, staying relatively steady with the last year’s numbers which was good news for The Rookie which shifted nights for its second season.
The Rookie made its Sunday night debut, as its season 2 premiere pulled in a 0.7 rating and 4.05 million viewers. That puts The Rookie even with its first season’s overall Tuesday night averages and makes it ABC’s most-watched Fall premiere in the Sunday at 10 PM hour in 4 years. Elsewhere on ABC, the season premiere of America’s Funniest Home Videos kicked off the night with a 0.7 rating in the adults 18-49 demo and 5.08 million viewers, down just a tenth from its season premiere last fall. The season finale of Celebrity Family Feud followed it with a 1.0 demo score and 5.42 million viewers, up four-tenths from its last episode and tying its season-high among adults 18-49. Shark Tank also returned at 9 PM to a 0.7 demo rating with 3.82 million viewers, up one-tenth from its fall premiere a year ago.
On Fox, The Simpsons premiered with a 0.9 demo rating and 2.31 million viewers. Family Guy and Bob’s Burgers also kicked off their latest seasons but scored a little lower with matching 0.7s and 1.87 and 1.86 million viewers respectively. All three shows were down several tenths from their fall 2018 premieres and overall 2018-19 season averages. At 8:30 PM, new animated comedy, Bless the Harts, got off to a quiet start as well with a 0.7 demo rating and 1.81 million viewers.
CBS had program delays due to an NFL overrun but the season premieres of God Friended Me and NCIS: Los Angeles scored a 0.9 and 0.7 demo rating. God Friended Me raked in 6.92 million viewers while NCIS picked up 4.97 million viewers.
Overall, Sunday ratings weren’t a total disaster and probably one of the better nights of premiere week. We’ll have to see how these all hold up in week two.
