Tyler Hoechlin is sticking with MTV. The Viacom-owned cable network has tapped the Teen Wolf favorite to join the rebooted third season of its Scream adaptation.
Hoechlin will play the series regular role of Shane, a high school dropout. The character is described as a drug dealer and party promoter who is always hustling in order to make money. But beneath that exterior, there’s more to Shane than anyone realizes.
The casting keeps Hoechlin in the MTV fold after he spent four seasons as a series regular on the Jeff Davis-created Teen Wolf, playing Derek Hale. The actor reprised his role in Sunday’s landmark 100th episode — which also served as its series finale.
Season three of the now-anthology reboot revolves around Deion Elliot (RJ Cyler), a local star running back whose tragic past comes back to haunt him at the worst time, threatening his hard-earned plans for his future — and the lives of his unlikely group of friends.
In addition to the new cast, anthology format and story, production is being relocated to Atlanta. Scream‘s six-episode third season will air as a three-night event in March on MTV. A specific premiere date has not been announced.
