When first released at the beginning of June, Wonder Woman became the highest-grossing opening weekend for a female directed film. As the month of June closes, the film is set to reach another milestone. Sometime during Friday, the Warner Bros. and DCEU film is set to pass the $609.8 million earned worldwide by Phyllida Lloyd’s Mamma Mia! back in 2008. When eclipsing that number, Wonder Woman will become the top-grossing live-action film of all time from a female director.
After it surpasses that mark Wonder Woman next and achievable goal is to pass Kung Fu Panda 2’s $665.7 million to become the top-grossing film of all time from a female filmmaker with solo directing duties.
The film has surpassed every expectation set by Warners both critically and financially and has provided the much-needed boost the DCEU needed after a subpar 2016.
