Will Smith Talking Genie Role in Disney’s Live-Action Aladdin

According to Deadline, Will Smith is in talks to take on the beloved role of the genie in Disney’s live-action Aladdin reboot. Previously, Smith had been considered for a role in the live-action Dumbo remake with director Tim Burton but nothing came from those early discussions.

Aladdin will be a musical just like its 1992 animated original and will follow the story of Aladdin and Princess Jasmine after he finds the magic lamp and frees a genie who grants him three wishes. John August (Big Fish) will write the story and a six-month production is set to begin in the U.K. this July ending early next year.
