Direction in a film is the key ingredient into turning a film from good to great. When first hearing about any film, the first boost of confidence as to whether a film will be good, bad, great, or indifferent is finding out who the man behind the camera will be. In 2017, it is quite simple to not only find out who is directing a film but to find out that person’s track record of successful films. Some of these directors may fall into the Michael Bay category as their filmography is all time bad while others leave glimmers of hope that their film will be good. With the likes of Damien Chazelle, Denis Villeneuve, Barry Jenkins, Ryan Coogler, and Ava DuVernay, there are plenty of men and women who are holding down the fort and continuing to make great films.
This week’s Reel Top 10 focuses on the best of the best. My top 10 directors of all time. From The Dark Knight to The Godfather, Psycho, all the way to City Lights, this top 10 spans decades of directors that have changed the way genres and films were made.
