Reel Box Office Predictions: The Hitman’s Bodyguard Should Lead Another Record Low Weekend

If you thought last weekend’s box office was sad, you should pull out the tissues because this weekend won’t be any better. It’s a holiday weekend but the studios have offered up no major new releases which should make it an easy win for The Hitman’s Bodyguard for the third weekend in a row.

The upside of August for a film like this is that it ends up being more successful due to the lack of fresh product. Had it come out in June or July, it would’ve been lost in the shuffle and forgotten within weeks. The late August release date allows it to really have the market to itself. The $30 million budgeted comedy action film is also opening up in Europe this weekend too so it will have a decent showing here and may pull in a nice amount of international coin as well. The film sits at about $42 million now and should be at $50 million by the end of the weekend. It won’t have a strong number one showing but it will still lead the box office with about $7-8 million

It should also be a easy second place finish for Annabelle: Creation which is also benefiting from the August drought. It has a domestic gross of about $80 million and that’s against a budget of only $15 million. It is also doing very well internationally so it’s one of the few wins from the month of August. I predict about $4-5 million for a second place finish.

Basically we need It to happen like now because the box office is a bit depressing bur the arrival of the highly anticipated horror film next weekend should bring big life back to the movies.
