Power Rangers To Have First Gay On-Screen Superhero

The highly anticipated Power Rangers film will be releasing this Friday. However, before the film releases, there is news regarding one of the rangers themselves. The Lionsgate reboot of the popular 90’s TV show is the first big-budget superhero movie to feature an LGBT protagonist. During the film’s second act, there is a scene in which the rangers learn that the Yellow Ranger Trini (Becky G) is coming to terms with her sexual orientation. It is made clear when one character assumes she is  having “boyfriend problems,” and soon realizing that perhaps she is actually having “girlfriend problems.” While not a huge moment within the film as it is no more than seconds long, director Dean Israelite calls “pivotal” for the entire film.
