The Shallows‘ Jaume Collet-Serra Eyed to Direct Suicide Squad 2

The Shallows director Jaume Collet-Serra is the frontrunner to direct DC’s upcoming Suicide Squad sequel. Previously, Warner Bros. was looking at Mel Gibson to direct but he dropped out due to script delays. Collet-Serra has received much acclaim for his hits OrphanNon-StopThe Shallows, and the upcoming The Commuter.

A new script is being written by Zak Penn (Avengers) and the studio is hoping for a mid-2018 production start. Will Smith and Margot Robbie will be back for the second film reprising their roles of Deadshot and Harley Quinn. The original Suicide Squad grossed $745 million worldwide.
