James Mangold In Early Talks To Direct Indiana Jones 5 As Steven Spielberg Bows Out

Steven Spielberg is out & James Mangold might be in. The Ford v. Ferrari filmmaker is early talks to direct Indiana Jones 5 after it was announced that Steven Spielberg will not be directing the sequel.

Spielberg will still be on as a hands on producer on the project. The move is being seen as a passing of the torch in the same way he did with Jurassic World by handing it to Colin Trevorrow. James Mangold is definitely on a roll creatively. He has hits like Logan, the Oscar-winning Walk the Line, Knight and Day and
The Wolverine under his belt & most recently helmed Ford v Ferrari which won two Oscars (editing and sound editing) and received four more noms including Best Picture. The film also grossed $225 million worldwide. Mangold is also attached to two projects at Disney’s Searchlight, a Bob Dylan project starring Timothee Chalamet, and a feature adaptation of the Don Winslow bestseller “The Force“ with Matt Damon at 20th Century Studios.

Harrison Ford is still attached to star in Indy 5 & the film is still dated for July 9, 2021 with a script from Jonathan Kasdan.
